Why should you become a Ph.D. student at the RuhrCenter?

Admission Requirements

  • MA (or Magister) in American Studies or English and American Studies, or History with a focus on U.S. History, or closely related fields, with an average grade of at least "Gut" on the German Grading scale.
  • Dissertation project in Transatlantic and Transnational American Studies.

 

How To Apply

Please submit the following documents

  • A letter of application in English providing information about qualification, motivation, academic interest and a short outline of the planned dissertation project not exceeding 2 pages
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Copies of all relevant university as well as high school diplomas (Magister/MA und Abitur-Zeugnisse) and transcripts of records
  • A copy of the complete MA/Magister thesis
  • A letter of recommendation from a senior professor of the institution at which the MA/Magister degree was completed
  • Proof of proficiency in English on the level C12 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (English language skills comparable to the German "Abitur" level)
